FAQ
About Confluence Retreats
-
Confluence Retreats is a partnership between the Hi-U Foundation and Omnia Group Ashland legal service center to bring a truly unique psilocybin retreat offering to Oregon’s new legal psilocybin services program. Through this unique partnership and the group retreat model, Confluence Retreats are able to offer 2x psilocybin administration sessions along with all the preparation, integration, transportation, beautiful accommodation, and nourishing meals at a price less than what most people would pay for two administration sessions alone. Since Hi-U Foundation is a nonprofit whose founding purpose is to protect and preserve the land currently known as Buckhorn Springs, all proceeds beyond operating expenses (including livable wages paid to staff) go towards helping the stewardship of Buckhorn Springs for generations to come.

Confluence Retreats are for people aged 21 and over (based on Oregon state law) who are looking for the best in mental health and wellness practices. We work with professionals of all walks of life and ages, from those who are new to expanded states of consciousness, as well as the highly experienced. Our setting provides a one of a kind opportunity to legally experience the benefits psilocybin has to offer in connection with a sacred land away from the noise and distractions of everyday life.
-
You begin by scheduling discovery call with your Confluence Retreat guide to see if a Psilocybin retreat is right for you. Before your call, we will ask you some personal and medical data. Then, we’ll book your dates, send you your preparation information, and introduce you to your group and lead facilitator for your retreat.

While Confluence Retreats is operated by the nonprofit Hi-U Foundation, our capacity to offer scholarships is currently very limited. In most cases, our scholarships can reduce the total cost of a program by approximately 10% of the price listed on our website.
For those seeking additional financial assistance, we encourage exploring external initiatives designed to facilitate access to licensed psilocybin services in Oregon. Two such resources are both called the Psilocybin Access Fund initiatives:
Learn more and apply for assistance through the Psilocybin Access Fund: https://www.psilocybinaccessfund.org/
Another opportunity for support is through the Sheri Eckert Foundation's Psilocybin Access Fund: https://www.sherieckert.org/paf
These organizations are dedicated to increasing accessibility to psilocybin services and may provide the financial support needed to participate in our retreats.

Yes, we offer psilocybin services that many refer to as "psychedelic therapy" or "psilocybin therapy." It’s important to understand that these terms are not universally defined in this new and emerging field. We provide legal and regulated psilocybin services under the guidelines of the Oregon Health Authority, focusing on creating a safe, compassionate environment for personal exploration.
While our services incorporate principles that are therapeutic in nature, they are part of a broader framework that ideally works in conjunction with traditional therapy or coaching. This supportive care is crucial, especially in the weeks and months following a psilocybin session, to help integrate the insights and emotional discoveries made during the experience. By combining our services with ongoing therapeutic support, you can achieve the most meaningful and lasting benefits.
On Psilocybin
-
According to recent studies, psilocybin mushrooms are the safest drug currently known - safer than tobacco, cannabis, and alcohol. These substances are non-addictive, non-toxic, and, when taken within a structured setting under the guidance of medical professionals, hold little to no risk. Psilocybin mushrooms utilized by Confluence Retreats are grown by liscenced manufacturers overseen by the Oregon Health Authority and are lab tested to ensure the volume of active ingredient in each batch is known.
-
Psilocybin, upon entering the body, is quickly metabolized into psilocin, which is responsible for the well-known psychedelic effects. Psilocin acts on serotonin at the 5-HT2A receptor, increasing the amount of serotonin available in the brain, and producing profound changes in perception, such as visual and auditory hallucinations, tactile perceptions (such as tingling or warmth), and synaesthesia (the merging of senses).
Users of psilocybin report entering a profound state of mind where the usual limits of consciousness are expanded. Realizations about the self and the universe may come to the forefront, and people will often describe feelings of unity, interconnectedness, and unconditional love. Studies have shown that psilocybin can induce a mystical experience and that this positively correlates with the benefits that users report following the trip.
-
There is one day on the 3-day retreat where psilocybin is given.
The dose can be as high as 30mg (roughly 4-5g dried mushroom equivalent, often referred to as a ‘heroic dose’). This dose is designed to support your deep psychedelic exploration in the safety of the container and the facilitation the retreat provides.
As a basis to contextualize dosing: clinic trials for psilocybin have almost always been done at 25mg, and some research has suggested that dosing over 30mg of psilocybin increases the likelihood of challenging experiences during your journey. Research has also suggested no noticeable difference in therapeutic effect between 20-30mg of psilocybin.
We have designed our dosing protocol on retreat to increase the chances of positive outcomes while minimizing the chances for challenging experiences.
Dosages are never set per person. We will determine your dosage together with you during your 1-1 conversations in advance of each psilocybin session. What we recommend varies depending on your intentions, previous experience, your sensitivity to expanded states of consciousness, and your anxiety level on retreat.
-
We review applications individually, taking into account both psychological and medical history, as well as current medications, to ensure there are no contraindications.
While the Oregon legal model for psilocybin is not a health program or treatment model, it is common for individuals to seek relief for conditions such as depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges through psilocybin, which has shown promise in clinical trials. If you are currently prescribed medications for mental health conditions, such as SSRIs or antipsychotics, we collaborate with psychedelic-friendly pharmacists and MDs who can provide additional medical advice and support. Together, we can create a personalized plan to ensure your experience is safe and beneficial.
The Confluence Retreat Experience
-
We would like to make sure you have all your questions answered and trust a Confluence Retreat is right for you. That is why the first step towards joining a retreat is to book an exploration call with us. During this call, we'll explore your intentions, your questions and any concerns you might have. We'll also share more about our programs and explore if we are a good fit.
However, if there is a reason you do wish to attend the call or would like to make an urgent booking, here is what to do:
Click BOOK A CALL, and follow the process outlined. While you pick your date and time, complete a few questions to help us personalize your experience.
Next, complete the medical screening process, and if approved, you will receive an email from us confirming your call. To bypass the exploration call stage simply reply to that email (or email us directly at suppot@confluenceretreats.org) and indicate the reason for not attending the call and the dates and program you would like to attend. We will correspond through email with you.
-
For us to accurately assess your suitability and safety for a psilocybin journey, as well as to provide you with a personalized experience during your retreat, we would love to get to know you better first and see whether Confluence Retreats are right for you.
If your screener identifies anything that requires a closer look by our team, we will wait until we get clearance from them. In the meantime, we will postpone your Exploration Call while we work with you on your case.
There are three possible outcomes of this review:Your Health Screener is approved and you are invited to reschedule your Exploration Call
To get a better understanding of your condition, we may request some more information from you. This may be over email or in the form of a brief call.
If we don't feel as though we can support you safely through your psilocybin experience, we may decline your application and therefore your Exploration Call (if this happens, we will send you an email with further details) Throughout this entire process, we handle your information with the utmost care and consideration for your confidentiality.
We appreciate this may feel like a roadblock and we want you to know that our team will work with you, with your best interests at heart, to determine the best course of action. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Your safety is our primary concern.

Studies have shown that the context of a group retreat and having experienced guides are essential ingredients to properly optimize for safety and getting the most out of a psychedelic experience. From years of retreat experience we know the value of this experience is rooted in the whole process, from being able to surrender fully because there is medical and professional support, to the meaningful relationships you will build with others.
-
We provide a comfortable indoor space with mattresses to lay down on, eye shades, and profound music. In creating an optimal environment for your psychedelic experience, we combine ceremonial aspects rooted in age-old tradition with modern approaches that have proven, in scientific research, to be effective at facilitating a deep, meaningful experience.
-
Upon arrival, guests participate in both group and individual workshops to help prepare them for the psilocybin ceremony. On the day of the ceremony, guests participate in a breathwork session and are carefully supported by experienced practitioners, including an on-site medic as they experience psilocybin in a therapeutic context. After each psilocybin session, guests participate in group and individual workshops focused on integration before customers return home. Additional preparation and integration support is also offered digitally outside of in-person retreat dates 3 weeks before and 3 weeks after your retreat.
-
We keep all personal information confidential, inside systems that are HIPAA compliant and up to the standards set by the Oregon Health Authority. No information will be shared with third parties as part of your participation in a Confluence Retreat.
-
Yes, you can. A second retreat can be a quite different experience, certainly not just a repetition. In case it‘s your second overall psychedelic experience, many people tend to be even better prepared and relaxed as there is a familiarity that allows them to let go or direct their experience even more. For experienced psychonauts on the other hand, each experience can have its own focus or topic, exploring different aspects of your subconscious or conscious mind.
-
You are welcome to stay at the retreat center either before or after your retreat for a charge of $200/night. Please note that if you do stay additional nights, you will be responsible for your own meals and transportation before or after the program officially starts and stops.
